Haiti: A Time To Act, To Teach, To Learn
Saturday, February 6th, 2010 * 4-6pm
Horace Mann Middle School * 3351 23rd Street, San Francisco
Speaker: Pierre Labossiere, Haiti Action Committee
The news is devastating. 200,000 Haitians dead, 3 million homeless. Aid turned away at the Port-au-Prince airport. Thousands dying for lack of medical care. Haitians helping Haitians, digging out from under the rubble.
This is a time to stand with the people of Haiti, to show our respect and our support.
Pierre Labossiere, co-founder of the Haiti Action Committee, will give us an up-to-date analysis of the impact of the earthquake, why aid has been so slow to reach the people, and what we can do at this terrible moment.
**Educators: At this event there will be resources available on teaching about the history of Haiti. There will be time to come together by grade-level or interest to create follow up plans: curriculum, thematic units, study groups, etc. Please bring resources to share!**
All donations will go the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund, which has been supporting grassroots community-based organizations in Haiti for the past six years.
This event is sponsored by Teachers 4 Social Justice, for more info visit http://www.t4sj.org
